I have a longer driveway with a steep hill and a 90 degree corner. We often had visitors and deliveryman showing up on our doorstep without warning. I needed something to give us some warning that could reach up the hill, around a corner, through a garage and into the house. While this sensor may be a bit more expensive than others, the ease of installation and its performance justify the extra cost. I was able to install this quickly and easily (95%of my time was spent on setting a post to mount it on, but even with the post digging and setting, the whole thing took less than 40 minutes). The unit comes set up and ready to go. Install batteries, mount to a post or tree and you’re done. You have a choice of 32 chimes to choose from and changing chimes, sensitivity and other settings is easy to accomplished. The directions are easy to follow, straightforward, and were obviously written by someone who speaks English. The diagrams are accurate, detailed and useful. I didn’t need any assistance from their technical support, but it was good to see they do their own tech support from Seattle.Once installed, all I had to do was plug in the inside receiver (it has batteries too, if you don’t want to plug it in) and it was functioning perfectly. I have no problems with reception, despite the distance from the house (several hundred feet) the fact that it is at the bottom of a steep hill and the signal has to pass through our garage to get to the house. It works perfectly. Now we have ample warning of vehicles or people coming up our driveway. I think I may buy another sensor and link it to this receiver so I can have a different chime when someone actually comes onto the front porch.All-in-all, I’m very satisfied with our purchase and highly recommend this to friends, family and neighbors.

Update 4/1/2017:Absolutely 100% reliable gate alarm. Not one false alarm which is amazing in and of itself. It has never failed to detect a vehicle coming or going out our gate. I have only a very minor issue – the receiver is, how shall I word this.. ugly. It’s an oddly shaped design but I can live with it. The performance of it more than makes up for its odd shape.Original review:Our gate is exactly 600′ from the front door of our house and I have never found a “long range” driveway alarm that lived up to advertising hyperbole. Until now. We live on a ranch with all kinds of critters wandering around and this alarm has not given a false alarm in the four days it has been installed. It has detected every vehicle at our gate.I have the sensor set to the lowest sensitivity (13′) and it points down.

We live in a wooded area and have a 600-700 foot long driveway. The device would not work at all even 200 feet from our house. When I called support they said the trees were the issue and this unit would not work for us. We are very disappointed as we read other reviews that said it works for them in forested areas. 🙁

Great solution for us as we live on rural land. Definitely suggest this to anyone who wants to be notified of guests or intruders! Very simple instructions to set up. Many options for the chimes/tones to distinguish individual zones. I recommend this product 100%. Only downside to this product is they don’t ship to Canada. You need to order through Amazon.com.

Very impressed with the range of this doorbell. It also seems to work great in rain or snow. Our driveway is pretty long and has a hill and trees and it still works great!

Works well. It was easy to set up by following the instructions. It looks like the unit has a number of options that would suit different purposes that each purchaser might have. These options would allow you to change for your future requirements.

Seems to work well at 300 yards. Tried it at 500 and could not get consistent results.

We had an in-ground magnetic wand driveway alert system before. After about a year, the thing kept going off at random moments, over and over with nothing on or near the drive. I’m not sure if it developed a short or what, but it was time to replace it. I did a lot of research. I was skeptical of the motion detector style drive-way alerts, but I kept reading good things about Guardline so I decided to try the 1/4 mile range model because we have a couple of acres with several metal buildings and such that the signal had to reach through. There are no trees near the driveway, so I installed the motion detector unit on a wooden post about two foot tall with a solar powered address sign on it. I mounted it on the back of the post pointing diagonally up the driveway, so it can’t really be seen until you’ve driven past it. I have it set to detect up to 13 feet. It seems to work great! The only false alarm wasn’t false, it was just a very large German shepherd dog that came up the driveway. We’ve had strong winds and rain since I installed it, and nothing else has set it off except cars or people coming up the drive. I suppose a deer could trip it, but most of the deer that come through our property come up the opposite side of the front yard away from the house and outbuildings, far from the transmitter. They haven’t been detected so far.Using the receiver in battery mode, I haven’t found a place on the property that it won’t pick up a signal from the transmitter. We have a large house, a guest house, and a 30×60 metal shop and it’ll pick up a signal behind and in every one of them with the transmitter mounted at the opposite end of the property 2 acres away. So far I give Guardline’s 1/4 mile Driveway Alert system 4 stars. My only critique is that I wish some of the 30 different tones were less silly music, dog bark and cricket sounds tones and they offered more variety in standard tones. I might have given it 5 starts with better tones. If The one tone I like is very short compared to what we were used to having on the old system and sometimes when I’m upstairs I miss it. I most likely will be purchasing an extra receiver or two for upstairs and out in the shop.Update 12/17/2018:We’ve had the 1/4 mile Guardline for about a month now. It works great! I recently wired a z-wave contact sensor to the NC/NO relay switches on the hub, paired with my Smartthings hub. Now every Alexa Echo in the house announces “Driveway alert! Someone is on the driveway” when the sensor is triggered. I can also have it turn on lights or other routines when the driveway sensor is activated. It’s great! No false alerts. We’ve only had the occasional deer set it off, which doesn’t count as a false alert.

I have been getting unwanted strangers driving through my farm yard in the middle of the night. I bought this unit a week ago and set it up on my long driveway about a 300 feet from my house and slightly in the bush. Works right away when I tested it. The only drawback is that I do have a lot of wildlife on my property and the deer do tend to set it off when they pass through. No worries as I can see them and know it was not thieves casing my place out.Definitely recommend this unit if you want to know who is coming up your driveway. Five stars in my opinion!

I am very happy with my purchase of the 1/4 Mile version of the Guardline driveway alarm/motion detector. I have been running it for 3 months now and it has reliably alerted to every vehicle (and person) coming and going on our property. The wireless signal powers through a mixed deciduous/coniferous forest and through the walls of the house from about 350 feet away and I’m sure it would transmit well across the advertised 1/4 mile range (~1300 feet). Additionally, the system is installed in Central Ontario where snow is plentiful and temps. drop into the -35°C range not infrequently. Despite the weather, the unit is still running on the same cheap, non-lithium ion batteries that I installed 3 months ago (battery life was a concern when initially purchasing)!I only have one sensor on my system but it can be set-up with up to 16 sensors across 4 unique zones (each capable of sounding a different alert tone) if you have multiple approaches to your property that you’d like to secure. You can also set it to ignore objects moving at slow speeds such as falling leaves, snow, and small animals; highly configurable in general. Highly recommend this item for peace of mind, as well as not having visitors sneak up on you.

Excellent product.Used for my driveway which is about 600 feet long and surrounded by trees. I used the quarter mile version. The first sensor I received unfortunately was defective.I called Guardline and they immediately sent me a new sensor whichI received in 2 days. This one works great. I can’t say enough about their excellent customer service.

It came promptly, packaged well. Instructions were a bit lengthy – and thorough. Distance capability is absolutely as described. It also set up as directed however it has had a “life of it’s own” ever since. Some times the bell chimes once, the next time it might be with two extra repeats, and now none at all after the last rain. I’ve got to read again the instructions again however I believe to reset them they have to be in the same place – which means either bringing [detaching] the one from the top of the drive to sync them or taking the base unit there. Argh

Works great, wish it was a little easier to change and set tones but it’s not all that bad, seems to pick everything up no problem and relays to receiver with no problem. Well built

We live in the country and our driveway is very long. The sensor works but wildlife and specifically all the birds trigger it so it does not work for our application. Batteries lasted about 2 weeks

Used this as a doorbell for our laneway. Live in a rural setting and wanted a way to hear when someone was coming towards the house. Works awesome! Would recommend this product.

So far so good. Unit seems to detect vehicles as well as people. Haven’t had an extremely cold day yet to give it a good test but it’s worked down to -10C. Very easy to install and setup.
